CARTA bus

A successful mass transit system is a major component of a greener, more sustainable community. So I was glad to read this article in the Post & Courier that takes a look at the current state of CARTA, the Charleston area bus system, and declares that not only is the service finally stabilizing, but ridership is up. They’ve improved the service by adding morning and evening rush-hour routes for commuters, neighborhood shuttles, and more bus stop shelters for those rainy days.

This is great news as CARTA has faced tumultuous times in the recent past where it’s continued existence was in question. According to the article, the stabilization is attributed to increased marketing initiatives, sales tax funding, and of course insane gas prices. Whatever the reason, it’s great to see and I hope the success continues. Now if they would just add service to and from Summerville…
